About Swee Lee
Who am I
Reflecting on my journey as a breast cancer survivor, I understand firsthand the pivotal role insurance plays in life planning. When illness struck, my insurance coverage provided the financial support I needed to focus on my recovery without worrying about the mounting bills. Now, as both an insurance advisor and a volunteer in breast cancer patient support, I’m deeply passionate about spreading awareness on the importance of insurance in securing one’s future.
Focus on financial planning, as a cancer diagnosis changes everything, including one’s finances
The growing burden posed by cancer in the country must be looked into, and this includes the need to address the issue of poor insurance literacy among Malaysians.
Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) secretary Liew Swee Lee said many were still unaware of the need to have a comprehensive medical insurance plan, including critical illness protection, to ensure those diagnosed with cancer were able to get the best treatment possible.
Breast Cancer Survivor Ms Liew Swee Lee Shares Her Inspiring Story
In Malaysia, breast cancer tends to affect every 1 in 19 women and is the second leading cancer death in the world, next to lung cancer. It is when cells in the milk-producing glands grow abnormal or multiply uncontrollably. Sometimes a lump formation may be non-cancerous, sometimes it is. Either way, any abnormalities you may encounter warrants a visit to the doctor.
To commence Breast Cancer Awareness month, Motherhood Story brings you an honorary member of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), Ms Liew Swee Lee.
Currently Secretary for the BCWA, Ms Swee Lee is here today to share with us her journey throughout her battle with breast cancer. Let’s hear from her on what kept her going and how life is today as the survivor she is.
